SA Wind Energy – Company Profile
Overview
SA Wind Energy is a proudly South African company dedicated to designing, manufacturing, and supplying high-performance wind turbine systems. Our mission is to support the country’s transition to renewable energy through advanced, reliable, and efficient solutions tailored to homes, farms, businesses, and institutional projects across inland and coastal regions.
Our Story
Founded by Glen, SA Wind Energy was born out of a deep commitment to innovation and sustainable development. Glen’s career began in the corporate world, where he successfully managed major accounts for over 15 years. Leveraging his experience and entrepreneurial spirit, he launched Quality Design Doors, which quickly rose to become one of South Africa’s top five Meranti wooden door manufacturers. With 15 dedicated installation teams and 5 subcontractors, the company became known for its exceptional quality and service.
Building on this success, Glen pioneered a high-voltage security fencing system, engineered and developed in-house. This system has been deployed across critical sites for over 16 years, earning widespread trust and recognition in the security sector.
Recognizing South Africa’s growing need for decentralized and clean energy, Glen founded SA Wind Energy three years ago with a vision to deliver scalable, engineering-led wind energy solutions. The company quickly gained traction, fuelled by a strong foundation in innovation, testing, and technical reliability.
Strategic Partnership
A turning point in SA Wind Energy’s growth came with the addition of Jonathan as a full partner. With a background in mechanical engineering and 15 years as the operational manager for ArcelorMittal South Africa and is the largest steel producer in sub-Saharan Africa., Jonathan brought deep technical insights and a data-driven approach to product development, enabling the company to accelerate R&D and expand its solution offerings.
Product Development & Innovation
Through intensive research and on-site testing, SA Wind Energy developed a product lineup tailored to South Africa’s unique inland and coastal wind profiles. We established strong global partnerships for access to high-performance wind turbine components, which, combined with our local engineering expertise, form the backbone of our product range.
Our commitment to innovation led us to design and manufacture our own Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) systems, ideal for urban environments, off-grid setups, and areas with lower wind speeds. Inspired by the Darrius turbine model, our VAWT systems offer efficient, quiet, and compact energy generation.
