Our Story
Founded by Glen, SA Wind Energy was born out of a deep commitment to innovation and sustainable development. Glen’s career began in the corporate world, where he successfully managed major accounts for over 15 years. Leveraging his experience and entrepreneurial spirit, he launched Quality Design Doors, which quickly rose to become one of South Africa’s top five Meranti wooden door manufacturers. With 15 dedicated installation teams and 5 subcontractors, the company became known for its exceptional quality and service.
Building on this success, Glen pioneered a high-voltage security fencing system, engineered and developed in-house. This system has been deployed across critical sites for over 16 years, earning widespread trust and recognition in the security sector.
Recognizing South Africa’s growing need for decentralized and clean energy, Glen founded SA Wind Energy three years ago with a vision to deliver scalable, engineering-led wind energy solutions. The company quickly gained traction, fuelled by a strong foundation in innovation, testing, and technical reliability.
Strategic Partnership
The addition of Jonathan Holtzhusen as a full partner marked a significant milestone in SA Wind Energy’s growth and development. With a background in mechanical engineering and more than 15 years of senior operational management experience at ArcelorMittal South Africa, the largest steel producer in sub-Saharan Africa, Jonathan brings extensive expertise in engineering, project management, operational excellence, and technology innovation.
Beyond his industrial leadership experience, Jonathan has built a strong reputation within the renewable energy sector through his involvement in the development and implementation of sustainable energy solutions across Africa. His experience spans wind energy, solar integration, water desalination systems, hydro power applications, and emerging green hydrogen technologies, providing SA Wind Energy with a broad technical foundation and strategic vision for future growth.
Jonathan’s ability to identify practical engineering solutions for challenging environments has been demonstrated through projects and opportunities in countries including Namibia, Malawi, and Kenya, where reliable access to energy and water resources remains a critical development priority. His understanding of integrated renewable energy systems enables him to evaluate and develop solutions that combine power generation, energy storage, water treatment, and infrastructure optimisation.
At SA Wind Energy, Jonathan’s technical leadership and data-driven approach have accelerated research and development initiatives, strengthened product design, and expanded our ability to deliver innovative renewable energy solutions tailored to African conditions. His passion for sustainable technology and commitment to engineering excellence continue to play a vital role in advancing the company’s mission of providing reliable, affordable, and environmentally responsible energy solutions.
Together, we are building a future where renewable energy, water security, and sustainable infrastructure work hand in hand to empower communities, businesses, and industries across Africa.
